All files related to your website. (Put the files in a folder named "website").
Your midterm PowerPoint (project proposal presentation) file: must contain information architecture and layout designs.
Animated Flash Banner (.swf and .fla)
Flash Calculator
Backup .xml file of your blog. For instructions on how to export and create the backup file, visit: http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=97416

Put all these files inside a folder with your name on it. Place the folder in the Dropbox at the teacher's station next class.

Final Project

Your Final Project presentations begin next week.

Project grade will depend on:

1) Information Architecture & Navigation: how easy is it to navigate the site? Avoid having to use the browser's Back button to get back to your website at any point.
2) Layout Design: effective use of the design principles: balance, color, typography, etc.
3) Portfolio: The goal of this class was to create a portfolio site. Therefore, it is important to have your galleries working properly. Choose your best work to feature on your portfolio.
4) Completion: ALL the pages need to be completed. If you have several gallery pages, have at least three images/examples of work on each page.
5) Presentation & Participation: you have to present your website in class, and make constructive suggestions on your peers' websites.

Finish coding your gallery page. Have at least 5 images in your gallery. If you have multiple galleries on your website, finish coding at least one of them. Upload to your UTD (or alternate) site.

Assignment #8

Create an Animated Banner in Flash. It can be a banner for your website, an animated logo, an advertisement banner, or an animated greeting card for Halloween!

Frame rate: 12 fps.

The banner size and duration of animation will depend on what you are trying to create. Have the .swf files ready to show in class next time.

Assignment #7

Finish up the templates for secondary and tertiary web pages. Make sure the rollover buttons are working, and that ALL the pages are linked to each other.

It is OK to have pages without content, but make sure the navigation sections are complete.

Upload the pages on your UTD site or alternate site. Make sure the buttons and links are working properly.

Pay attention to file structure. Arrange the images inside the "images" folder. Do not use special characters in file names.

Make sure the file permissions have been set to 755.

Project Proposal Presentation

Assignment #5

In Photoshop, create the layout of one of the secondary pages. I strongly suggest you design the portfolio page, since you will have to show it during the presentation in two weeks. If you plan on having tertiary level pages, design the layout for one of the tertiary pages.

Save file as .jpg and post on your blog.

During your Project Proposal Presentation, you will have to show completed screenshots of your home page, your portfolio page and one of the tertiary level pages (if applicable).

Additional Instructions on Changing Permission of Files on UTD Webspace

This is how you can use Terminal from the Mac Lab to change your file permission.

When Terminal is opened type in "ssh apache.utdallas.edu"
Say "yes" to continue to connect.
Type in your password when prompted.
Type in "makeweb"
Make sure your index.html file is in your public_html folder.
Then type "cd public_html"
Type "chmod 755 index.html"

Your index.html file should show up when you type in
utdallas.edu/~(NetID)

*Note: If you did not save your file as index.html then type "chmod 755
(enter filename here)" instead.

Assignment #4

In Photoshop, create the layout of your website's home page. Save file as .jpg and post on your blog.

Pay attention to the colors and fonts you use. Also keep in mind, the current trend is that most computers are using a screen size of 1024 x 768 pixels or more. My suggestion is that you plan your layout for a 1024 x 768 monitor.

Next week, we will discuss Design Principles. If you have questions about colors, typography, etc., email me before next Tuesday, and I will try to include the specific issues in my lecture.

1) Those who had problems with uploading your index.html file to your UTD website successfully, the file's permission needs to be changed. The instructions can be found in the previous post. Go see one of the lab techs if you need help with this. Once you make sure the website is up and running, email me the link at sxm016710@utdallas.edu and I will adjust your grade!

2) Create a flowchart for your online portfolio. Upload as .jpg or .gif image to your blog.

There is an additional step necessary for people to have their website up and running at utdallas.edu/~(your netid). The main issue is that any file copied to the public_html directory has to have its permission changed by typing chmod 755 filename. Once that is done, the page will then display. Here is the link from the school for the instruction to setup your webpage.

Assignment #2

Upload the file created in class to the public_html folder in your H drive. Make sure you can view the file when you visit: utdallas.edu/~(your net id)

If you have an existing active website parked there, make a folder for atec3361. In that case, your file should be uploaded at utdallas.edu/~(your net id)/atec3361

Post your UTD homepage URL on your blog. Make sure the link is active, so that viewers can click it and go directly to your website and see the index.html created in class.

Alternately, if you have your own hosting space, you can post the webpage on your hosting space. Post an active URL to that website so that I can click and view index.html.

Find 3 Inspiration websites. Take "screen capture" of these webpages, and post the images to your blog.

Under each screenshot, provide active link to the website and briefly discuss what you like about the website. How can you incorporate this feature or idea into your own portfolio website?
